ABSTRACT

Ergonomics is concerned with understanding the interactions between the work system and individual capacities in order to minimize worker ill health, improve comfort and safety, and increase production. The work system is formed by the technology, organization, task, environment, and the person (Smith and Sainfort, 1989; Carayon et al., 1999). An imbalance between the work system demands and individual capacity can result in musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Such an outcome as a result of this imbalance has been referred to as an ergonomic injury (Pheasant, 1996).
