ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses automobile driver response times and the factors that influence them. Previous research has reported driver response times from 0.5 to 10 sec for various tasks. This chapter will offer reasons for different response time results. Muttart (2003a, b, 2004) found that different results can be explained and quantified by methodology and substantive variables. Thus, a mean response time for various scenarios can be estimated. The precision of such estimates will also be addressed.
