ABSTRACT

The mass concentration of an aerosol is the mass of particles per unit volume of the mixture. Common units are mg/m3, used for standards and measurement of occupational exposure aerosols, and µg/m3, used for standards and measurements of air pollution. Aerosols may also be characterized by number concentration, the number of particles per unit volume. Number/cm3 is often used. Number concentration is used for bioaerosols, asbestos, and ultrafine particles.
