ABSTRACT

There are numerous definitions of “sustainable development,” but the most frequently quoted one was stated by the Brundtland Commission. It defines sustainable development as “development that meets the needs of present without compromising the needs of future generations to meet their own needs”.1 Based on the work done by the Brundtland Commission and others, there is currently a consensus that sustainable development must embrace (at least) the environmental, the economic, and the social dimension.
