Microcomputers were introduced into schools in the 1970s and 1980s* as they became widely available on the market. Today, desktop computers are often available in specialized computer laboratories or as part of normal classroom activities (Figure 23.2a and Figure 23.2b). Some schools make laptop computers widely available in classrooms (see Figure 23.2c).
