ABSTRACT

Injuries occurring during entry/egress from commercial vehicles affect many drivers and passengers and translate into a substantial cost to business. The main objectives of this chapter are to give an overview of the problem of vehicle entry/egress-related falls, as well as to summarize the findings of a study that focused on quantifying impact forces and slip potential during various egress methods from five common commercial vehicle configurations. Factors that may contribute to falls during entry/egress from vehicles will also be discussed, along with various approaches that can be adopted to reduce the prevalence of these types of falls.
