ABSTRACT

A Geographic Information System (GIS) can be used as a supporting system in the education sector for decision-making or problem-solving related to its geography. This study attempts to analyze the spatial distribution of the schools in Dramaga through school mapping. The objects of study are elementary and middle school levels. The objectives are to create school maps based on GIS, to analyze the coverage area of the schools and to calculate the social demands of education in the area. The school position data is collected by a GPS device and converted into points in shapefile format using ArcView 3.3. Based on data collections, there are 38 elementary and ten middle schools in Dramaga. All villages already had elementary schools, but it was found that two villages had no middle school. Opening a new school can improve the educational access, especially as is the case in two villages with no middle school.
