ABSTRACT

Imazethapyr is a selective imidazolinone herbicide used to control a wide spectrum of broadleaved weeds and grasses in soybeans and several other leguminous crops. Imazethapyr is a uniquely flexible herbicide which can be applied early preplant, at planting, or postemergence. Soybeans exhibit excellent tolerance to imazethapyr when it is applied either to the soil or postemergence. Under stressful growing conditions internode shortening may occur, resulting in shortened plants. Peanuts are very tolerant to imazethapyr; however, heavy rainfall or irrigation following application of imazethapyr and before emergence of peanut plants may cause some stunting. Imazethapyr can be used in tank mixtures with pendimethalin, trifluralin, alachlor, metolachlor, benefin, ethalfluralin, and vernolate for enhanced grass control in peanuts. Corn is sensitive to imazethapyr and may be injured by applications made directly to the crop. Corn is quite tolerant to soil residues of imazethapyr when the herbicide is applied the previous season according to the label.
