ABSTRACT

VM/CMS (Virtual Machine/Conversational Monitor System) is an IBM operating system that is available for use on IBM mainframes. General users use two of the components of VM/CMS:

CMS(Conversational Monitor System) CMS deals with creating, updating, and managing files. It is also used for compiling, loading, and running programs. CMS is essentially a tool for communicating with the system via a terminal.

CP (Control Program) CP is necessary for CMS to operate. CP handles hardware devices required to store files (disks and tapes), work on files (terminals and memory), and output files (printers, terminals, punches, and readers).

CMS and CP work closely together to perform all of the tasks deemed necessary for users.
