ABSTRACT
Algebraically complicated equations occur in all areas of science and engineering. In principle, standard manipulations will solve many of these equations, but in practice the required calculations are so unwieldy that producing the correct solution by hand is intractable or impossible. In such cases, the scientist can turn to computer algebra for assistance.
