ABSTRACT
The ability to apply statistical methods in evaluating research results closely paralleled the development of electronic computers. Many of the calculations involved in these methods include the use of large-scale matrix manipulations that were hardly thinkable before the introduction of computers. With the advent of the PC, the makers of statistics software shifted their focus correspondingly, and soon it was possible to do “personal” statistical research without the need to access a university computation center.
