ABSTRACT

Windows for Workgroups®, from Microsoft, is an example of a peer-to-peer network, in contrast to the Novell Netware® system, which is an example of a server-based system. In a peer-to-peer network, each user may share files, clipboards, directories, or disk drives with their fellow users on the network. In a server-based system, all sharable files reside on one or more dedicated (usually) server systems. For small organizations, a system such as Windows for Workgroups is especially useful. In addition, a Novell session may be run concurrently with the Windows for Workgroups session. This means that files may be shared among users (peer-to-peer) or may be accessed from the server (server-based).
