ABSTRACT

The basic ‘hazop’ method, essentially simple but rigorous if correctly used, was conceived within an industrial environment about thirty years ago. However, current adaptations frequently reveal scope for realising the full potential of the technique. This paper suggests some of the means by which this objective is achievable; firstly, practitioner efficiency can gain from an improved awareness of perceptive ability and secondly, there is evidence that departure from the orthodox guide word approach should be discouraged.

Formats are included for the reliable documentary control of changes, actioned by ‘HAZOP’ review, applied throughout project development.
