ABSTRACT

Many companies have traveled the road of client/server conversion, and valuable lessons have been learned in each case. The primary objective of the technical strategy was to downsize to a lower-cost, more customer-focused client/server environment using intelligent workstations, graphical user interfaces (GUIs), and productivity tools to decrease PSI's dependence on the current IBM mainframe. One of the client/server computing benefits is the use of low-cost personal computers (PCs). A client/server system is typically a LAN on which a large microcomputer performs the role of a file/printer repository and server for attached user stations, called clients. Customer support consists of applications, ad hoc reporting, and problem resolution. Technical support focuses on back-office technical operations and support. The IS training plan focused on providing education to applications development associates to enable them to better support an IE environment.
