ABSTRACT

Cryopreservation of the hybridomas allows MAbs to be produced for decades without alteration in their specificity. Rat hybridomas kept for over 6 years in liquid nitrogen have been thawed and grown in culture without loss of activity. Some of our in vivo grown rat myelomas and hybridomas have been kept frozen for 17 and 8 years respectively, without loss of tumorigenic potential or secretion of MAbs. To date no hybridoma cell line has been lost owing to freezing or thawing.
