ABSTRACT

The LOU/C rat easily develops ascites after intraperitoneal injection of syngeneic immunocytoma or hybridoma cells without any priming. 1,2 A rat is ten times as large as a mouse. A greater production per animal is therefore obtained from the former species. But in unprimed rats, the ascites production is proportionally lower than in oil-primed mice. The antibody production of hybridomas is also generally much lower than that of immunocytomas. For large scale MAb production the obtainment of ascites has thus to be optimalized in rats.
