ABSTRACT

Monoclonal immunoglobulins or myeloma proteins or paraproteins synthesized by tumors have been detected in many animal species: men, 1 cows, 2 horses, 3-5 pigs, 6 dogs, 7-11 cats, 12,13 rabbits, 14 ferrets, 15 hamsters, 16,17 and mice. 18 These spontaneous tumors are incidental growths which derive from B lymphocytes and are called myeloma tumors, plasmacytomas, or immunocytomas depending on their characteristics and origins. Their monoclonal immunoglobulins have been used for various studies, but being rare and not transplantable, these tumors have always been considered of low interest.
