ABSTRACT

The fusion of antigen-stimulated B lymphoblasts and myeloma cells gives rise to hybrids combining both the properties of continuous growth of the malignant partner and those of secretion of antibodies directed against a predefined antigen.1 The method for production of rat × rat hybrids, using the 983 rat immunocytoma line,2-4 is derived from that described by Galfré et al.5 The absolute number of hybrid clones depends mainly on the growth rate of the immunocytoma cells; the percentage of specific antibody-secreting hybrids depends on the fraction of freshly-stimulated large lymphoblasts6 and hence on the immunization conditions.
