ABSTRACT
The gilthead seabream is a highly prized food fish found in the Mediterranean and Black Seas and along the eastern Atlantic Ocean from Senegal to the British Isles. It is most commonly found in coastal waters and hypersaline lagoons, where it lives out its life. 1 Natural spawning occurs during early winter, January to February in the eastern Mediterranean, after the adult populations leave lagoonal areas for deeper waters.
