ABSTRACT

Grass carp are naturally distributed in most rivers in China, except for the northwest region. They are also found from the Heilungkiang (Amur River) basin in eastern Asia to Thailand and Vietnam. But the area inhabited by grass carp has been greatly expanded in recent years. They have been introduced into the freshwaters of many regions in the world, such as central Asia, Japan, America, Europe, and the Arabian peninsula. 12 Grass carp is a very popular cultured fish, mainly because of its ability to feed on various plants. In addition, it grows rapidly to large sizes and has good meat quality. In pond culture, it can be polycultured with other fish.
