Phospholipases are hydrolytic enzymes widely distributed in tissues of animals and plants. 1 The most common types of phospholipases in animal cells are the A and C type, classified according to their specificity 2 (Figure 1). Other types of mammalian phospholipases are phospholipases B and D and lysophospholipase A1 and A2.
