ABSTRACT
This chapter provides data center managers with a better understanding of the changes that are taking place, why they are taking place, and how to deal with them. To better understand what is happening throughout the information systems industry, data center managers must first examine and understand the changes that are taking place not only in the economic and social structure of the US, but how these changes are occurring on a global scale. To have a successful information systems career, the data center manager must become part of the business management team. To succeed and build a strong foundation for a successful long-term career, data center managers must understand and accept the career planning is their personal responsibility. The data center manager should understand their daily responsibilities, their business needs, the difficulties they face in meeting those needs, and where they see the company going.
