ABSTRACT

This chapter emphasizes the networking of microcomputers. The security and control issues go hand in hand with the planning, implementation, and operation of networks. Security and controls can be classified as physical security and access controls, environmental controls, software and data security controls, and administrative security controls. The objective of physical security and access controls is to prevent or deter theft, damage, and unauthorized access and to control movement of personal computer networks equipment and attached devices. Data and software security and access controls are the key controls over a microcomputer network. The data center manager must ensure that all controls operate as intended and that all controls provide the level of security desired by management. The data center manager's main objective is to prevent, detect, and correct unauthorized access to the network's hardware, software, and data to ensure the network's sound operation and all security surrounding the local microcomputer and the microcomputer network processing.
