ABSTRACT

Fuzzy logic applications were presented, in a relatively high number of publications, in the field of cardiological diagnosis and cardiac imaging. Starting with MYCIN a milestone in the history of expert systems, some factors expressing the statistical uncertainty, belief, or evidence were assigned to the consequents of the rules used in the inference. In order to increase the accuracy of the diagnosis, and obtain a more global perspective of diagnostic criteria for ischemia during the exercise stress test, a multimethod diagnostic technique has been developed. The upper layer consists of a secondary group, whose output represents the degree in which the evaluated patient is likely to have myocardial ischemia. The total score (TS) may itself represent the output of the fuzzy diagnosis, or – as is the case of multimethod myocardial ischemia diagnosis system (MMIDS) system, another indication may be taken into account for the systems output.
