ABSTRACT

The nutrition of the cancer patient must be considered an essential part of the overall assessment from the moment of diagnosis. The objectives of this nutritional plan are to prevent nutritional deficit or to correct it if it has occurred in the form of lean body mass, to improve immunological status, to improve tolerance to antineoplastic treatment, to diminish the risk of surgical complications, to avoid or diminish the risk of surgical complications, to avoid or diminish hospital admissions, to improve functional status, and to improve the patient's quality of life.
