ABSTRACT

Medical cancer treatments are increasingly effective, but they are not without side effects that manifest in different organs and systems, sometimes affecting the patient's quality of life in a very marked way. The toxicities on the cutaneous organ, like the alterations derived from radiotherapy, become very evident, since they are visible and cause great discomfort and stress to the cancer patient. This chapter analyzes and describes the compounds and active substances used in dermocosmetics that may be of interest in skin care. There are few studies on its effectiveness, but enough to say that hydration and emolliency are essential to minimize skin reactions and that different resources are available for the formulation of dermocosmetics for cancer care, mainly vegetable oils and butters, vitamins, fatty acids, extracts of algae and various botanicals, clays, peloids and thermal spring water, among others. In addition, the use of corrective and camouflage makeups helps to hide imperfections and thereby improve the patient's self-esteem.
