ABSTRACT
The first Western physician to be interested in cannabis was W.B. O'Shaughnessey, a young professor at the Medical College of Calcutta who learned of its multiple uses throughout India. When he returned to England in 1842, he brought with him how to make hemp solutions as an analgesic, along with knowledge of its use in epilepsy, tetanus, and rheumatism [1].
