ABSTRACT
Primary tumours originating in the retroperitoneum are extremely uncommon, with the vast majority of these tumours being malignant. They can be divided into three major groups:
Tumours arising from mesenchymal cells (soft tissue sarcomas)
Tumours arising from germ cells (extragonadal germ cell tumours)
Tumours arising from haematopoietic cells (lymphoma)
