ABSTRACT

The unregulated growth of tumours results not only in local infiltration, but also in the spread of disease via lymphatics to lymph nodes. Although tumour dissemination to lymph nodes is common, the prevalence of nodal disease differs according to the site of the primary tumour and the underlying histopathology. For example, lymph node metastases are relatively frequent in patients with colorectal cancers but are rarely encountered in patients with soft tissue sarcomas (1).
