ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book describes that transformation in the context of a methodology used with a specific design project. It proposes that the design gap lies between various representations used in the design process (i.e., between a represented world and a representing world). The book contends that people use models to explain complex systems. It points that the bridge is better built if one uses the correct representation for communication and for reasoning about user activities. The book develops a framework called Systematic Creativity, which can be used throughout the entire development process. This allows not only design issues, but also development questions and usability issues to always be traced back to product requirements. The book deals with the challenges present when introducing new technology, or what he calls new-generation products.
