Scaling Behavior in a Map of a Circle Onto Itself: Empirical Results*

Motion on a torus is studied via a return map of a circle onto itself. The map T(θ)= θ + Ω − (K/2π) sin 2πθ exhibits unusual scaling behavior for K = 1. Some evidence is presented which suggests this scaling behavior is universal.
