ABSTRACT

The Clarke Quay tunnels are being constructed under Contract C708 of the Singapore North East MRT Line. The 5.8 m finished internal diameter twin bored tunnels extend from Dhoby Ghaut station to China Town station with an approximately 200 m break at the intermediate Clarke Quay station. The tunnels under-run the existing MRT tunnels at Dhoby Ghaut, a service reservoir located on top of the Fort Canning Hill and the Singapore River. This paper presents the design philosophy adopted for the design of lining for these tunnels and also the response of the ground during the completed tunnel drives.
