ABSTRACT

The longwall gateroad at one of the mines in SCCL in India faced strata control problem. Despite, the installation of heavy density of the support, the roof control problems persisted. The problem was investigated by geotechnical investigations by measuring the deformations versus time and horizon of the bed separation in the immediate roof. Stress analysis was carried out using discontinuum models to understand the behavior and to design suitable support system. Based on the analysis, the roof support system was modified and successfully implemented at the same mine. The performance of the support system was evaluated using deformation measurements.
