ABSTRACT
The Rock Engineering System (RES) methodology studies rock mechanics and rock engineering design with a systematic view and a total systems approach. The RES can be implemented and computerized using neural networks with an expert system. The tunnel design chart of the Norwegian Method of tunneling is computerized, and a computerized system for rock tunnel design is produced. It is shown that the computerized RES can be successfully applied in rock engineering practice.
