ABSTRACT
Efficient cutting can be achieved by deep cutting using large, wide-spaced picks. However, this can lead to large cutting force fluctuations due to having a small number of picks. In order to reduce the force fluctuations, an investigation into vibration isolation of picks has been undertaken in laboratory. It is found that using picks with a vibration isolation system can reduce the peak cutting and normal forces significantly.
