ABSTRACT
This Paper will discuss the construction of the bored tunnels underneath a row of shop-houses on Contract 705 of the North East Line Project (NELP). The operation of Earth Pressure Balanced Machine (EPBMs) during tunnelling will be discussed with detail on the operation parameters of face pressure, grout pressure and grout volume. The ground and building settlement monitoring of the old shop-houses will also be discussed as a means of examining the EPBM’s performance.
