ABSTRACT

One of key milestones in a feasibility study for a radioactive waste repository in a deep geological formation is the underground laboratory experiments. For this reason, an underground research laboratory (URL) in a deep argillaceous rock is being constructed in eastern France by the French national radioactive waste management agency, ANDRA. This paper describes the geomechanical experiments program to be carried out in the URL for providing data to improve and verify conceptual and constitutive models of the argillaceous rock. The established program emphases the expected results of project owner (ANDRA) rather than in situ experiments’ conception.
