ABSTRACT

For the footbridge spanning Bayerstrasse in Munich, S 690 high-strength steel has been used for the basic construction for the first time (Figure 1). The bridge creates a barrier-free link for pedestrians and cyclists between two parts of town, the Hackerbrücke rapid-transit railway station and the Theresienwiese fairgrounds. A 38-metre hybrid arch construction spans a four-lane main road, two tramlines, and two cycle lanes and pavements.
