ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate the behaviour of SHS column to beam end plate connection with high strength bolts. Direct tensile tests using simplified connections are conducted with varying thickness of columns. Also, finite element analysis (FEA), which have a capability to simulate the detailed behaviour of these connections, bolt cramping characteristic, several contacting interactions and as matter of course non-linear material characteristics, are developed. The verification of FE modelling is conducted by the correspondences of detailed behaviour between tests and FEA results.
