ABSTRACT

The roof structure forms the cover of a newly-built church. Its dimensions in plan are 39,0 × 39,0 m and its height is 2,6 m. It consists of small square-based pyramids of 3,0 m side lengths. Around the periphery the structure is two-layered and 5,2 m high. The construction is made of round steel tubes joined by welded plates. The whole roof-bearing structure (of about 80 tons) was assembled and welded on site at ground (level to be) then lifted up on to the church walls using three mobile cranes. In the first phase, after lifting up the roof structure, it was supported by only to walls and two assembly columns. On completing the two missing walls the columns were removed. The roof cover is made of two layers of corrugated sheets separated with mineral wool.
