ABSTRACT
The resurgence of structural steel incorporating tubular members in major Australian public buildings is testimony to the happy convergence of design intent, functionality, efficiencies in buildability, building regulation reform, and an enthusiastic public acceptance of the new wave of steel structures in architecture. This paper explores the architectural design principles shaping major steel public buildings, and provides examples in case study format of those principles at work.
