ABSTRACT
For the design of structures with long spans, truss systems or arch structures consisting of hollow sections (semi-finished products) are chosen. The advantages of these systems are:
more favorable load bearing behaviour,
adjustment of the necessary member cross sections to the member forces through the variation of wall thickness,
smaller surface and thus, more favorable measures for corrosion protection,
relatively low dead weight,
and others.
