ABSTRACT

Connections that permit easy fabrication and simple erection are increasingly seen as a key element in the production of cost-effective steelwork. A particularly attractive means of connecting open section steel beams to SHS columns is the fin plate or tab arrangement. A full description of all possible modes of failure will be provided and this will then be associated with the corresponding design checks. The design procedures are based, where appropriate, on detailed rules given in the ENV version of the European code for structural steelwork EC3.
