ABSTRACT

A test programme was conducted on hollow flange beams to determine their capacity under concentrated bearing loads. The programme included an investigation into the bearing, bending, and combined bearing and bending capacity of two sizes of hollow flange beam sections. Using the data collected design rules were then developed for concentrated bearing loads and combined bearing and bending interaction, and are described in this paper. The design formulae are compared with those developed for RHS and SHS sections using similar models.
