ABSTRACT

From an experimental and numerical investigation on the fatigue behaviour of tubular joints placed inside lattice structures [2], a large contribution of chord member loads on the fatigue life of those joints is found.

When using the hot spot stress approach, except for T joints [2], no information on stress and strain concentration factors caused by chord member loads exist.

A large number of uniplanar and multiplanar welded tubular joints has been analysed using realistic FE models, from which related to the joint parameters β,γ,τ,φip, and φop, the type of joint and the chord member load considered, stress concentration factors for fixed weld toe locations are given in a number of figures. In addition, the relationship between stress and strain concentration factors are discussed.
