ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines the evolution of lossless TLM algorithms. In order to present a firm foundation we have to talk about propagation and about transmission Unes themselves. We start by presenting some of the underlying electromagnetic theory which is relevant to propagation in homogeneous free-space. This is followed by a brief discussion on the use of analogues in electromagnetics. We then move on to compare lumped and distributed circuits which is the starting point for an introduction to the theory of transmission lines.
