Rabies Control of Terrestrial Wildlife by Population Reduction

Celsus, a Roman physician in the 1st century, has been credited with the first documented account of rabies in “… wild animals or of serpents”. ¹ It would be another 11 centuries before the first epizootic of wildlife rabies was recorded, in wolves of Franconia in 1271. ² Thereafter, the disease spread throughout Europe and reached England in 1734.
