134Rabies virus spreads rapidly throughout the central nervous system (CNS) after its arrival there via the nerves, spinal ganglia, or by other routes. The particular CNS sites that support rabies virus multiplication have long been a point of considerable discussion, as have the identification of the cellular elements that contribute to virus spread.
