ABSTRACT

Modelling and simulation have become central to all disciplines of engineering and science. They are used in the analysis of physical systems where they help us gain a better understanding of the functioning of our physical world. They are also important to the design of new engineering systems where they enable us to predict the behaviour of a system before it is actually built or commissioned. This chapter introduces concepts of modelling and simulation of wheel-rail systems with the final result of a model library called MEMPHIS. An introduction into software packages for control engineering such as MATLAB/SIMULINK are presented which support the process of mechatronic modelling and simulation. Small examples give an understanding, how this library is organised and how the prebuild modules could be used for own modelling and simulation purposes in this chapter.
