ABSTRACT

In every membrane separation process there is a membrane that is placed between two phases. One phase is called feed and the other is called permeate. Reverse osmosis is a membrane separation process by which a solution is separated into its components. A membrane with the aforementioned structure is called an asymmetric membrane. The top dense layer and the porous sublayer of an asymmetric membrane may be prepared from the same material, or they may be prepared separately from different materials. Nanofiltration membranes are used to separate molecules that are larger than those treated by reverse osmosis membranes. For practical purposes, membranes should be packed as compactly as possible in a container. In a tubular module, membrane is coated on the inner wall of a support tube. Membrane gas separation technology can be used for the removal of carbon dioxide from the CO2 emission source such as power stations, steel works and chemical plants.
